About Sunshine Rats

We are a small rattery based in Brisbane and with a huge passion for rats!

Surprising to many people, rats make fantastic pets. They don't require much space, are cheap to maintain and don't need to be walked. When socialised properly, they are playful, loving and very affectionate pets that genuinely enjoy and seek out human contact.

Our rats are regarded as part of the family and are treated as such. You can meet them on the Our Rats page. A matter of fact our rats are oftentimes treated better than family! Visit the Husbandry pages for information on how we keep our furry friends happy.

Our primary breeding goal is to keep our beautiful lines going, whilst improving health, conformation, length of life and temperament. For the foreseeable future, we will be working specifically on the blazed marking and blue colours in rex, silk and standard coats, as not only do we have a particular appreciation for these types, they are what our beloved rattie family consists of.

We would like to think that decades from now we will still be sharing our home with decendants of our wonderful ratties, all of which can be found of the Our Does and Our Bucks pages. Sunshine Rattery aims to breed between two and four litters per year, details of which can be found on the Planned Litters page.

As we breed mainly to keep our lines going, we do not always have ratlets available for adoption. If we receive adoption enquiries and do not have any ratlets available at the time, we will recommend other reputable breeders that may be able to help. We also maintain a waiting list if there is a particular pairing of interest. Please email us from the Contact Us page if you are interested in our litters.
